Thursday January 26th, at The Volunteer Appreciation Dinner at Fifth Street Ministries, The Cove Church and it's volunteers were recognized for all the support in the Soup Kitchen. Steve Byrd, a volunteer at Fifth Street, Cove member, ministry leader and most recently Fifth Street board member, accepted the plaque and goblet on The Cove's behalf.

God's Timing, Answered Prayers and Behind the Scenes

I read this story about a mission trip leader from a local church and was encouraged by God’s perfect timing and how even though we don’t see how it will all work out God’s timing is PERFECT. I pray this encourages you in your own life and ministries. As you work through the unfinished puzzle of your life trust that God is orchestrating, events, people, resources, and finances on your behalf.

Trip leader Gary Welch was concerned. It was just weeks before a medical mission trip to Haiti. And he didn’t have any doctors signed up. None. So this faithful leader called on his team to pray.

At the very same time, Chris Neuman was lost and searching. Growing up Jewish, his wife and two boys had encouraged him to begin attending a local church six months prior.

Two weeks before the medical mission trip to Haiti– Chris committed his life to Jesus. An emergency room doctor, he decided he wanted to put his faith into action and serve on the medical mission trip to Haiti. That same day, five more medical professionals signed on (including Kristin Neuman, Chris’s wife, who had been attending bible studies and praying for years about her husband’s salvation).

God answered the prayers of dozens of people that one day. Bringing Chris to Christ, moving in him to serve on his first-ever mission trip, bringing other medical professionals to the team. But notice that God doesn’t force anybody to act. It takes obedience, an act of will to say “yes” to the work God wants to do in your life.
Hebrews 12 says, “let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us..”

We are part of God’s bigger plan, there is no plan B. God is working behind the scenes in your life. Answer Him with a YES and join Him on the journey and trust Him with the outcome!

Upscale boutique helps thousands of families in need

Below is a great article from The Charlotte Observer on the Give Back Boutique. The Boutique supports efforts of Mooresville Christian Mission located in Downtown Mooresville, Profits from high-end consignment shop go to area mission to feed, clothe, teach and transforming families in the Iredell country area.

An undiscovered jewel, Give Back Boutique, is tucked away behind Harbor Internal Medicine in Williams Professional Center 1.

Pink signs, edged in zebra stripes, direct shoppers to the high-end consignment shop at 478-D Williamson Road.

Unlike other consignment stores, this one, staffed by volunteers, exists to serve more than 4,000 families in our community.

Keena Darland, Donita Glinski and Joycelyn Armstrong conceived a novel idea: Form a boutique and give all the proceeds to the Mooresville-Lake Norman Christian Mission.

Valerie Chamberlain, executive director of the mission, embraced the proposal and offered her support. Within a few months, everything came together for an opening this past August.

Women's clothing and accessories, small home décor pieces, original paintings and books are artfully displayed. Dressing rooms, designed to resemble window treatments, are draped in black and gold fabric.

"Our niche is higher-end clothing for people who have champagne tastes and beer pocketbooks," said Darland.

Profits from the sale of donated or consigned clothing are used in the mission's programs to assist families in crisis and help those families move into permanent self-sufficiency.

"We want people to know we are here and what we do. We are very choosy about what we take and sort through it, so the customer doesn't have to," said Darland, who serves as the store's manager.

Bargains abound. Items in the boutique for 30 days are reduced to half price. Clothing rotates quickly so the store looks new whenever shoppers stop by. Designer labels like Michael Kors are the norm.

Style savvy volunteers offer advice and help women coordinate clothing.

Customers can take advantage of special sales and drawings one Thursday evening a month during Girls' Night Out. The next one is planned for Feb. 9.

During the January GNO, women registered for free massages and learned about skin care as they tried on clothes and jewelry. One shopper justified her purchase remarking, "I have to buy something to support the place."

The volunteers operate Give Back Boutique on a zero budget. When people donate, consign or buy clothes, they are giving back to our community.

Building hope for children and families through education, counseling, and intervention programs to help stop child abuse now. They offer programs that connect parents with compassionate and well-trained professionals as well as opportunities to meet with other parents in the community who are looking to develop the same.

Volunteer position: Looking for volunteer for the At Risk Kids Program
At Risk Kids (ARK) is an intervention program for adolescents (age 10 - 17) who have involvement with the Juvenile Court System or for youth whose behavior demonstrates that they may be in danger of entering the Juvenile Justice System.

The goal is to provide home based intervention by providing parenting skills, problem-solving skills and positive life skills to youth and parents.

SOLACE Host Mtg, January 30th

IMonday evening, Jan. 30, 7 pm, at Williamson's Chapel UMC in Mooresville, NC. Interested in becoming involved in international mission work? How about bringing the mission field right into your home? Solace for the Children is a nonprofit organization that provides medical and dental care to children in need from the war-torn country of Afghanistan. Children travel to the United States for six weeks during the summer to receive the medical treatment that they need. Solace is looking for volunteers to provide a loving host family for these children while they are here.

HOST FAMILY INFORMATION MEETING: if you are interested in finding out more on how to become a host family this summer there is a Solace for the Children Host Family Information meeting scheduled for next Monday evening, Jan. 30, 7 pm, at Williamson's Chapel UMC in Mooresville, NC. The meeting is in the Chapel (the doors face Williamson Rd). This is a time to learn more about Solace for the Children, being a host family, fundraising opportunities, and time for questions for the organization.

Disaster Relief Training Basic Class in March

The Baptist Men’s Association has a Disaster Relief Basic Training class scheduled for March 16/17th in the Raleigh NC. The cost is $40 per person and George Kelley will be coordinating a trip for volunteers interested from The Cove.

This basic training is the way you get your foot in the door of NCBM Disaster Relief. If you've never trained with us before, you're in the right place. It is a 2 day orientation to the Disaster Relief ministry which includes history, policies, procedures, and technical training in the field you choose.

Schedule: Check-in begins at 2:30 on Friday. Classes from 4:30 - 10 p.m. We finish on Saturday by 3 p.m. If you cannot arrive for class on Friday by 5:15 p.m. please choose another date and location to participate.

Accommodations: 3 meals (Fri. supper, Sat. breakfast and lunch). This is an OVERNIGHT training. Participants will sleep at the facility/church dormitory style, men and women separated. Bring your cot/air mattress and anything you need for sleeping. We do NOT provide sleep gear, only space! Showers provided.

Age for all disciplines except Recovery: 18+. Recovery 15+ With Parent

To Register: Locate Region under map below and click on the link. Participants registered on a first-come, first-served basis. Training class size is limited. Registered Volunteers will be contacted approximately 1 week before the event with exact location information.

Administration: volunteers learn how to manage the paperwork associated with running a disaster operation.

Communications: for amateur radio operators and IT professionals. Need HAM license or IT network experience.

Disaster Relief Chaplaincy: provide spiritual care and encouragement to volunteers and survivors, requires background check (provided by NCBM) and reference letter 30 days BEFORE training.

Disaster Relief Temporary Child Care: Emergency child care training requires background check by NCBM.

International Search & Rescue: for volunteers with US credentials and/or experience including Medical Professionals. Team members are expected to respond INTERNATIONALLY within 24 hours of notification if possible. Requires passport.

Mass Feeding: Learn food safety and preparation for mass feeding. Volunteers prepare breakfast and lunch on Saturday.

Medical Reserve Corps: domestic and international response. Must have a current NC medical license.

Recovery: Help homeowners recover by using mud-out, chainsaw, and temporary repair. Age 15+ w/parent.

Shower/Laundry: Covers setup, maintenance, and use of shower/laundry units.

Cost for Basic Training: $40, includes training manual, hat, shirt, id badge, mirror hanger and 3 meals. NON-REFUNDABLE. Credit Card/Checks accepted.

Note: The training is designed to be as realistic as possible. Flexibility is key to having a good experience. Please do not register for this training if you cannot stay for the entire event.

With your help we delivered the Good News of God's love and salvation in the form of Christmas gifts to over 1000 children in our area and sent over 1800 shoeboxes to children in Honduras. Honduras Stove Installation Mission Trips: 2 trips planned April 21 – April 28 and April 28 – May 5. The Cove is taking teams to Honduras to install stoves and share the love of God. Many typical stoves are not vented to the outside, meaning that smoke and particulates build up inside the home. This team will install stoves vented on the outside, whose benefits include much higher air quality and much lower wood use. The trip cost is $1500 and open to adults 18 and older, or those 16 years of age with a parent or guardian present on the trip. The deadline to apply and have all funding in is March 12, 2012. South Africa Mission Trip: May 2012. The Cove is partnering with local churches to help them reach more people for Christ and will be working with orphans and child-headed households for light construction projects. Dublin, Ireland Mission Trip: October 26 - November 4. This fall, The Cove will be traveling to Dublin, Ireland to serve with the Dublin Christian Mission. The trip cost is $1600 and the deadline to register is September 16, 2012. The team will be working with kids of all ages doing arts and crafts, building relationships and working with the homeless drop-in shelter. The area of Dublin that we’ll be working in is experiencing severe generational poverty, chronic unemployment and a lack of hope. By our presence and example, we have a chance to introduce people to the Hope that is a relationship with Jesus. Iredell County Foreign Exchange Program

Below is information from Teri Kirkpatrick (Local Coordinator for EF foundation) on a foreign exchange student program. If you are interested and willing to host a foreign exchange student for a short period of time - 6 weeks. And Iredell county schools will accept students until mid-January.

EF is in need of a couple of families willing to host for up to 6 weeks as a Welcome Family for an exchange student (High School) for January? Currently we have 50 students who must be placed/matched by Dec 31, or they will not be able to come to the USA. The Welcome Family allows us to a) get the student a seat at the local High School b) 6 weeks to find a PERM host family for the remainder of the student's stay.

PLEASE NOTE: The student will need to be MATCHED with a host family BY December 31 (Last day for Matching). The 2nd semester for Iredell county does not start until January 24, so the student will be here the week before about January18. EF will arrange the exchange student's flights that are best for the Welcome family.

Host families can be families with high school students, families with younger children, singles or 30% of our host families are empty nesters. The host families would provide a room (and they can share with a same sex child), breakfast and dinner and help with after school transportation.

Please let me know if you can help, or if you know anyone willing to host a student for 6 weeks. Christina or Manual are two students needing a host home.

How: Pick up a gift tag from a giving tree during any weekend service on November 26 & 27 or December 3 & 4. Or, request a tag online, and pick it up at a weekend service on December 3 & 4. Purchase the gift listed on the tag, and return it wrapped and with the original tag to The Cove. All gifts must be returned to The Cove by Sunday, December 11th.

Fill a shoebox with toys, personal care items and other small gifts, and make a huge impact on the life of a child in Honduras. Our very own Cove team will help deliver these boxes in February, meeting the physical needs of these children while sharing the Good News of Jesus with them.

How: Pick up an empty box at any weekend service. Using the suggested items list, fill your box and return the filled box to The Cove with $5 which will help pay for shipping to Honduras. All shoeboxes must be returned to The Cove by Saturday, December 24.

Contribute financially. Your financial gifts, above your regular tithes and offerings to the General Ministry Fund and Growth Fund, help ensure that The Cove will be able to continue reaching people and introducing them to Jesus.

How: After prayerfully considering what God would have you to do, pick up a contribution envelope from the offering boxes located in the atrium. Please make sure to indicate on the envelope that this gift is for Christmas at The Cove.

Christmas at The Cove is a month long celebration and it has become a great tool for us to reach people for Christ. Mark your calender it all starts next Tuesday, November 22, at the Mooresville Campus. I know many of you have participated in the past and have made it an annual tradition. I want to invite you to Christmas Set Up 2011. It will be an awesome day of serving and fellowship. Our Creative Team has come up with a great plan so now we just have to put it into action, but we cannot do it without your help. For me personally events like this have been a great opportunity to meet new faces and develop relationships.

We will start off Tuesday morning at 9:00am and break out in to groups to bring it all to life. It will be an exciting time and I hope you all will join us.

Mooresville Christian Mission is planning for its first Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot. The event is meant to provide an opportunity for us to give thanks for the things we have by helping those in need in our community.

OutREACH Team Meeting: Thursday November 17at 7:00 pm * Mooresville Campus. Find out how to get connected and serve outside the walls of the church. You’ll hear about upcoming serving events with Christmas at The Cove and 2012 mission trips. You’ll also hear a bit about all the different ministries we support and how YOU can make a difference.

Christmas at The Cove Serving Opportunities: Looking for a way to impact lives this Christmas season? Join with us in changing lives, hearts, and communities through sharing the love of Jesus Christ. There will be many serving opportunities available across all three campuses. Opportunities include decorating, event planning, handing out tags and shoeboxes during the weekend services, sorting shoeboxes, shopping, database entry, wrapping, and more. Poverty Awareness Week: Did you know one in five children live in poverty and one in seven Americans now live below the poverty line? Poverty Awareness Week is November 13 through 19. Mooresville Christian Mission is looking for volunteers to help with stuffing envelopes, mailings and preparation for the events planned that week. Volunteers are also needed to help with set up for events through the week. Give Back Boutique: The Give Back Boutique is looking for volunteers with retail experience to help run the consignment clothing store located off Brawley School Road in Mooresville. The boutique supports Mooresville Christian Mission, and what makes this shop unique is that 100% of proceeds go to serve families in our community, especially those with children. Money raised helps to fund Crisis Assistance Programs helping families in danger of hunger or homelessness. 2012 Upcoming Mission Trips:

2012 Honduras Shoebox Trip: February 25 - March 3, 2012. Our commitment is to deliver approximately 5000 shoeboxes to 15+ villages but our divine assignment is to share the gospel with children and youth. The trip cost is $1500, and open to adults 18 and older, or those 16 years of age with a parent or guardian. The deadline to apply and have all funding in is January 9, 2012. 2012 Honduras Stove Installation Mission Trips: 2 trips planned April 21 – April 28 and April 28 – May 5. The Cove is taking teams to Honduras to install stoves and share the love of God. Many typical stoves are not vented to the outside, meaning that smoke and particulates build up inside the home. This team will install stoves vented on the outside, whose benefits include much higher air quality and much lower wood use. The trip cost is $1500 and open to adults 18 and older, or those 16 years of age with a parent or guardian. The deadline to apply and have all funding in is March 12, 2012. 2012 South Africa Mission Trip: May/June 2012. Poverty Awareness Class

This program is for those who are looking to counter poverty or its impact on people and businesses in our community. You will learn about the innovative concepts and training found in Bridges Out of Poverty solutions. Under our Bridges Model, we offer the ideas, structures, and concrete tools a community needs to prevent, alleviate, and reduce poverty.

Binghamton, NY Disaster Mission Trip

Binghamton, NY Disaster Mission Trip: September 30 - October 3, 2011. This is a great example of a group of people going and “being the church”. One person with a passion to help, recruiting others to “go” with her. Although it is not an official Cove trip, it is a trip designed to bring hope and restoration to a community that was hit hard by Hurricane Irene.

Trip Cost: $120 for gas. All meals and lodging facilities are being provided by the local church. First Presbyterian Church of Johnson City NY has a disaster relief shelter set up for volunteers with shower facilities, lodging and food. It is a 10 hour drive; you will need to bring sleeping bag and toiletries items.

Everyone is welcomed but plumbers, electricians, and contractors are especially needed. For additional information please contact Dawn Inman at dawnm28036@yahoo.com If you are not able to go but would like to donate items.

Most requested items are: Baby supplies, diapers, wipes, formula, food, water, cleaning supplies, heavy duty rubber gloves, canned food.

Jesus tells us in Matthew 28, The Great Commission to "go" into all the world. What is your "go"...praying, sending, or going? Maybe it is all three, we invite you to join us as we "go" into all the world.

2011 Upcoming Mission Trip:
Georgia Mission Trip: October 13–16, 2011. Join The Cove as we go on mission to Cobb County, Georgia. We will be in the urban areas of the city working with the homeless and doing light construction projects. The trip cost is $200, and the deadline to register is September 28, 2011. Dublin, Ireland Mission Trip: October 28 - November 6, 2011. This fall, The Cove will be traveling to Dublin, Ireland to serve with Dublin Christian Mission. The team will be working with kids of all ages doing arts and crafts, building relationships and working with the homeless drop-in shelter. The area of Dublin that we’ll be working in is experiencing severe generational poverty, chronic unemployment and a lack hope. By our presence and examples, we have a chance to introduce people to the Hope that is a relationship with Jesus. Turning a house into a home...South Africa

God’s timing is perfect...Rarely early but never late.

It's been almost a year since The Cove got involved with funding and helping build a cinder block home for the Nkambule family. This past Friday was move in day for the child headed household. If you recall the mother passed away and the father ran out on the children. That being said the head of the house is now 14 year-old Phindile. She cares for her three siblings, Fana (11 years old), Sunnyboy (7 years old) and Sipho (3 years old). They went from living in a single room shack to a multi room home.

Ena, the on-site “project manager” for the house sent us these pictures and details of the day.

“Friday was a great day when we all sat outside, and looked, it was finally finished. We all worked neighbors, children, carpenter, it looks beautiful, I don't know if the children really realized that they were out of their one room house, into such a spacious home.”

“I always get teary when we finished because it is such a privilege to fulfill God’s command to care for the poor and orphans. It fulfills two commands at once.”

What "Church" looks like

Do you ever wonder what it looks like to "Be the Church" not just attend a weekend service, sit in a chair, listen to the message and go about your business come Monday? Below is a recent e-mail from Jody Schwandt, Executive Director of Mooresville Soup Kitchen describing a recent "church" experience.

"A woman named Candy came in this afternoon and said that she had a food donation for us. She said it was carrots and pears which is exactly what we needed! I asked if she checked the website and she said yes, that is how she knew what we needed and that it took 40 cans of each when we serve.

She said that her Pastor had talked about giving up something and to give to the poor and I asked what church and she said The Cove. So what her family decided to give up was their trampoline. They put it on Craigs list for $75. and a woman in Charlotte bought it. Unfortunately, she didn't have a way to pick it up so Candy delivered it to her and the woman gave her an extra $5. for her trouble.

Today Candy went to BJ's and decided to buy 40 cans of Pears & 40 cans of Carrots (for one meal) and the bill came to $82.00 which was the $80 from the trampoline and an extra $2. she had in her wallet. She and I talked about it being a God thing and how He works through us.

I want to thank you all because you see the need and you act on it as a church and as individuals. And I believe because Mike is not just willing to talk about it on the platform, but to walk it in the community it impacts many. Not just those on the receiving end but those who are giving. So thank you Brooklyn for keeping that website updated and for those who listen when God tells them to start a church, give to the poor, do not judge......"

Lunch and Learn with Mooresville Christian Mission

Valerie Chamberlain, Director of Mooresville Christian Mission along with her well trained staff have “eyes wide open” when it come to poverty in our community.

Join them for a hour and a half lunch and learn. They will be talking about the current state of poverty in our community, types of issues that families in this area are facing, what the Mission is doing to assist them, and the programs that are available for those in need. Lastly, they we will highlight the Bridges program that is available for all to continue on with their education around poverty and volunteer opportunities available with the Christian Mission.

The Cove team is back- South Africa was such a life changing experience and we loved every minute of it. Another glorious day in SA...shared Jesus with approximately 150 youth at a youth event. Made too many bagged lunches for the event, so we developed a kind of "meals on wheels", where we went into the villages and handed the lunches out to children and adults. It was a beautiful but humbling experience. It is hard to look suffering in the face especially when it looks back at you in the way of a 3 year old with no shoes, ripped clothing and a hungry belly! But we must if we are to love like Jesus and make a difference.

If you cut concern for the poor out of the Bible, you cut the heart out of it...God's heart! God makes the poor his priority and as Christians we should as well. I heard it once said "poverty is not the lack of charity but the lack of justice". Our team can not do everything but we are not letting that stop us from doing something!

Meet the Nkambule Family

Meet the Nkambule Family. This is the family that the Cove Church help fund a home for and our team has been working on the past couple of days. The household is made up of five siblings; however, the oldest brother, Thulani (21 years old), has recently left the house, and it is unknown if he will return. The head of the house is now 14 year-old Phindile. She cares for her three siblings, Fana (11 years old), Sunnyboy (7 years old) and Sipho (3 years old).

The Nkambule's live in a one room shack and have essentially no source of income. Both parents have passed away.

As of today their new cinder block home is expected to be completed within 2 - 3 weeks.

Day 6 of South Africa Mission Trip

It feels like the theme for the trip has been "see the need; but past it enough to see the person and touch the hurt". As a team we have been reading the book "Outlive Your Life", by Max Lucado, in a part of the book it says "let's change the way we look at people...let's look at the hurting until we hurt with them. No hurrying past , turning away, or shifting of eyes. No pretending or glossing over. Let's look at the face until we see the person"!

We have had the honor of visiting child headed house homes, working with orphans, helping build a cinder block home for a 15 year old and her 3 siblings, home visits with the elderly, sick and dying and vacation Bible school with 200 + children. We have seen and experienced many "needs" here in South Africa but the most important need is the one most often over looked. Unconditional love and hope . This trip we are focusing on looking past the need and into the face and eyes of the person. We want to stop seeing problems and see God's children.

So thankful for the opportunity to be God's hands and feet in South Africa.

A team of 8 from The Cove Church has arrived safely in South Africa and are having a great time. Today we went to visit Pastor Piet's church and had the pleasure of listening to Sandiso (a 19 year old student from African School of Missions) preach a delightful and encouraging message on "joy". Sandiso has a passion for the Lord and shared it with over 200 + adults and children in the church.

Tomorrow we are planning to visit the home of a child headed house hold that The Cove helped fund. Stay tuned and thank you for joining us on this journey.

We have some AWESOME news to celebrate with you. Over the weekend of July 9-10 7,162 pounds of food for Cove families and local organizations were donated across the Mooresville, Statesville and Catawba Valley Campuses! Thank you for your generosity in giving and serving, you guys ROCK!

Another chance to reach out to local kids and families in need this summer is coming up soon during the SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE on July 23-24 at the Mooresville, Statesville, and Catawba Valley Campuses. Help local students start off this school year prepared to do their best. The Cove is collecting select school supplies to equip students with the essentials they’ll need for the 2011-2012 school year. Bring your donations when you attend a service.

Mooresville Soup Kitchen and Cove Cook Teams: The Mooresville Soup Kitchen provides a hot, homemade lunch to an average of 150 people each day. The Cove partners with the Soup Kitchen to prepare, cook, and feed folks with three cook teams each month. The Cove serves the 3rd Friday, 4th Tuesday and 4th Thursday of each month. Volunteers are currently needed for the cook teams to help feed the hungry in our community. If you are interested in serving on a team please e-mail Ray Hughes at givemea8@roadrunner.com.

2011 Upcoming Mission Trip:
Ireland Mission Trip: This fall, The Cove will be traveling to Dublin, Ireland to serve with Dublin Christian Mission. The trip is tentatively set for October 28 - November 6 with an approximate cost of $1600. The team will be working with kids of all ages doing arts and crafts, building relationships and working with the homeless drop-in shelter. The area of Dublin that we’ll be working in is experiencing severe generational poverty, chronic unemployment and a lack hope. By our presence and examples, we have a chance to introduce people to the Hope that is a relationship with Jesus. Accounts from the mission field...Honduras Stove trip

Update from trip leader Barry Brewington on the May Honduras Stove Mission trip...

Once upon a time in a country far, far away a scrawny, but ordinary in every sense, 8-member mission team set out to lend their hands and feet to help install a few stoves for some mountain villagers who had so very little. Actually the country is not so far away – only 1,500 miles (6 hours by airplane) and the once upon a time was May 14th through 21st. I recently heard on Christian radio that we are all intrigued when we hear the phrases “Once upon a time… or “In a country or galaxy far, far away…” we immediate perk our ears thinking we are going to hear a very interesting and possibly remarkable story that peaks our imagination.

Recently a team from the Cove Church, located in Mooresville, NC, undertook a short-term mission trip to Honduras, Central America. We spent a week operating out of our base hotel in Siguatepeque and working by day in three villages near Lake Yajoa in central Honduras. These villages were Las Marias, Las Vegas and El Cedral. In Honduras we partnered with and supported a regional pastor by the name of Israel Gonzalez. Pastor Gonzalez has trained and placed approximately 18 local pastors in mountain villages. His team in Taulabe, Honduras constructs the stoves using concrete with wire reinforcement (using a University of Iowa design for third world countries). With his team’s direction and assistance, we load and haul these stoves to the villages. We then install them in the homes with varying amounts of the homeowners’ assistance. In the past either we or Pastor Israel’s team have done all the installation. This year they are getting the recipient’s buy-in by getting them to build the base upon which the stove sets.

If you were to hear someone tell you they went on a short-term mission trip for a week, what would think they could get accomplished in such a short period of time? When you start to pare it down to actually time spent on the mission field (it take 2 days for travel – 1 going and 1 coming back); that only leaves 6 days on the ground to make a real impact. Our plans (and we hoped and prayed were the same ones Jesus wanted us to do) were to accomplish the following objectives:

• Install 20 to 25 wood-burning stoves in mountain village homes (these are 92% “smokeless” and 80% more fuel efficient stoves)
• Evangelize and witness to the local Hondurans primarily by being “the hands and feet of Jesus Christ”
• Further develop our relationship with Pastor Israel and his team
• Have our team grow Spiritually
• Ignite a passion for international missions among members (new & repeat)
• Develop unity within the team and avoid conflicts
• Further develop our Spanish language skills
• Be conscience of and follow the Holy Spirit’s leading in every situation (Pastor Israel is exceptional at doing this)

Now a couple of weeks after the trip’s conclusion and having time to reflect on all that happened, it is interesting to look back at those indelible memories and all that was accomplished. The following is a bullet list of many of the accomplishments and memories:
 Forty-four (44) stoves were delivered - Forty (40) were installed!
 Two (2) team members baptized in Lake Yajoa!
 Fifty (50) villagers of Las Marias to witness & hear why they were getting baptized! What a testimony!
 We can only hope to know the impact of these baptisms on Pastor Moses (pronounced Mó ses) ministry in Las Marias
 Friendships: Newly made and rekindled with young & old
 An opportunity to show a Christian film on the first work day
 A fellowship meal at Pastor Moses’ home – fresh fish!
 Mucho black & sweet Honduras coffee in villager’s homes
 A team unity unlike most of us have shared before
 Outstanding daily devotions from a young lady who stepped up to the challenge of tackling a new task
 Faithful obedience to the Holy Spirit’s leading by the entire team
 A couple of fishing trips with Pastor Israel
 A chance to sightsee a little – on first and last day
 Quality time spent with Pastor Israel – daily & many nights
 A camping trip! Gave up our A/C and hot water!
 First time team members – not just ignited, but ablaze!
 PBJ sandwiches for lunch – they went around like loaves and fishes!
 Special blackberry drinks from some villagers
 Special accommodations and service at the Granja D’Elia
 Ah the fruit – the freshest and tastiest ever – mango y peňa! (Mango and Pineapple!)
 Developed relationships with Pastor Israel’s new team members: Ivan, Caesar and Dicser – all hard workers
 Many chances to see huge smiles for a new stove - isn’t it wonderful to give something to those who will never be able to repay you – priceless!It is interesting how we think we are going to Honduras to help the folks there, but it always seems we are the ones most blessed. This was an exceptional team and without a doubt the best ever international mission trip I have ever had the pleasure of being a part of. I saw first-time team members catch the Spirit’s fire and totally immerse themselves in this serving opportunity. The comradeship we experienced among those that went and with Pastor Israel and his team was truly remarkable.

I will never forget this memory on our last work day. We were dropping off Geronimo near his home after the last day of a very full week. He climbed out of the back of the Kia and he stood there on the driver’s side seemingly frozen in time. He didn’t have to say a word the look on his face expressed all he wanted to say in English but couldn’t. His look showed deep gratitude at our willingness to come to Honduras and toil and sweat so 40 homes could have stoves. He was truly appreciative of all our efforts. As I felt my eyes begin to well up with tears, I told him, “We will be back next year.”
I hope I get a chance to personally talk with you about all we saw and did. We are recruiting now for the May 2012 trip. It is not too early to sign up. My promise to you - I guarantee your life will never be quite the same again! I can only caution you when you give your time to Christ – He may make it addictive for you. He has me!

Alabama Relief Trip Update

A team of volunteers from The Cove recently traveled to Alabama to help with relief efforts following the tornadoes this past Spring.

Although I knew that the area was heavily damaged from watching the news, nothing fully prepares you to see house completely destroyed. Easily half of the homes in the neighborhood were either completely crushed or only barely still standing.

The trip down (about 8 hours) gave us a chance to get to know each other. Late Friday afternoon we visited the neighborhood (Pratt City) where we would be working Saturday. Although I knew the area was heavily damaged from watching the news nothing fully prepares you to see houses completely destroyed. Easily half the homes in the neighborhood were either completely crushed or only barely still standing.

Two churches in the area were completely destroyed and the one (Antioch Baptist) where the work groups congregated Saturday suffered severe damage. Saturday we partnered with folks from the Church at Brookhills who were helping with tree removal and debris clean up in the area. In the afternoon we took the load of supplies to a local school which is being used as a relief supply pick up point in the neighborhood. One of the ladies at the school asked us if someone had earlier called us with need requests since what we had exactly what they needed on the truck!

Tornado Disaster Relief Efforts

Hi Prayer Warriors,

It is time to start praying for the Cove Church's May Honduras Mission trip. We will be heading out on May 14 for eight (8) days. Please pray with us as we prepare to go, are there on mission and return. We would not think of leaving out to do this important work without our prayer warriors back home praying for us each day.

This year, once again, we will be installing "smokeless" stoves in remote mountain villages. We will get to spend plenty of time in their homes as we work and it is an excellent opportunity to share our faith with the villagers. You may not be able to go with us, but you can be there in Spirit with us as we become "the hands and feet of Christ."

Hello OutREACH Team:

Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Japan after the massive earthquake that struck the northeastern Japanese coast on Friday afternoon, generating a massive tsunami along broad areas of the Pacific coast. Numerous deaths have been reported and many people are still missing. OutREACH is currently investigating how we can best assist those affected by the earthquake and tsunami. During the initial rescue and relief efforts, we hope that you will join us in supporting organizations that are currently on the ground as first responders. World Vision is a great place to start. You can donate to their emergency relief efforts here.

In the meantime, I invite you to join us in praying for the people of Japan, for those who have lost or are still missing a loved one, and for those who have lost their homes and livelihoods.

THE SUNDAY SCHOOL CELEBRATION FOR 2010

Below is a e-mail we received from Pastor Piet Mokae in South Africa. Pastor Piet is one of the local pastors The Cove Church partners with in South Africa to share Christ.

The kids are enjoying their meal after receiving their gifts and they are together with Pastor Piet Mokae. They were about 38 kids, age 13 – 14 years old and some they are doing grade 6 - 8.

The kids are with their teacher,they are excellent after receiving their gifts and they were very excited. The kids loved their church so much, they love Jesus.

The Church gave the Sunday School kids these School bags as their gifts.

*May the good God bless the group who blesses us with the funds to make this occasion to be successful. God bless the Cove Church. The church appreciates and values you so much and we are praying for you and your Senior Pastor Mike and let God blesses him so much.

The church bought biscuit and juice and we have use about R420.00 we as the church we put children first. The church sees the children are more important and we try to help the kids. The church and the leadership like to thank the group, the team who came in South Africa from the Cove Church and also the Senior Pastor of the cove church allowing the group to donate some money in order to make the kids celebration possible.

The leadership and the church we are planning to have an after school enrichment programme. They were about 64 kids came on the 16 January 2011 and we gave the biscuit and juice and hopefully the number of kids will increase.

I hope you will be blessed seeing these children when you come on July 2011 and hopefully you will make an impact in the lives of these kids.

2011 Honduras Shoebox Mission Trip

Good morning from Siguatepeque, Honduras. It is a beautiful, sunny day here as we wake up and prepare our hearts and minds to be the hands and feet of Jesus to God's local people. Our first two days have been filled with a lot of travel, via air and ground, but we all survived and enjoyed a good night's sleep last night.

We visited 3 villages in Trujillo yesterday (along the northern coast of Honduras). Words can't describe the looks on the children's faces as we give them their shoebox filled with goodies. The simplest things mean the world to them like candy, soap, and small toys. They are excited as they show their goodies to their moms and siblings. Some never have seen bubbles, or play dough, or slinkies.

We even got to witness the finishing touches on one of the I.G. stoves in the Pech Indian Village and were privileged to see first hand the first tortillas cooked on the stove. This stove will save the family a lot of time and effort and money on firewood as well as improve their health by eliminating toxic smoke within their home.

Please pray for us today for safety in travel and hearts filled with love to overflow the all we come in contact with.

West Virginia Mission Trip: April 14–17, 2011. Join The Cove as we go on mission to McDowell County, West Virginia. The majority of McDowell County lives well below the poverty line due to the collapse of their economy following the withdrawal of the coal companies in the 70’s. We will be working on home repair for impoverished families. These jobs typically range from roofs to floors to baths. Construction skills are a plus, but not required; you are welcome to come learn these skills with us or spend time with the families we serve. West Virginia Adult Spring Trip coming up!

Adult West Virginia Mission trip is scheduled for April 14-17th, 2011. Deadline to sign up is Sunday, March 13, 2011. If you are interested contact Ronnie Mangum, e-mail address: ronnie@thesignclinic.com

The cost will be approximately $130 ($100 paid up front and $30 that you bring with you) to cover all of your meals, lodging and materials for the jobsites.

We will be going up to Welch, WV where we will be working with the Community Crossing. The Community Crossing (formerly McDowell Mission) is an organization that was set up to help the people of McDowell County by offering a wide assortment of services (from home repair to literacy). The majority of McDowell County is well below the poverty line due to the collapse of their economy following the withdrawal of the coal companies in the 70’s.

The work we will be doing is home repair for impoverished families. These jobs typically range from roofs to floors to baths. The Crossing will match up the projects to the skills we bring so no matter who goes or what your gifts are, there will be plenty to do. Construction skills are a plus, but not required. You can come and learn these skills or simply spend time visiting with the local families, cleaning & beautifying, etc.

SOLACE for The Children Interest Meeting: This Thursday, February 3rd at 7:00 pm * Mooresville Campus. Interested in becoming involved in international mission work? How about bringing the mission field right into your home? Solace for the Children is a nonprofit organization of volunteers that provides medical and dental care to needy children from the war- torn country of Afghanistan. Children travel to the United States for six weeks during the summer to receive the medical treatment that they need. Solace is looking for volunteers to provide a loving host family for these children while they are here. If you are interested please contact Asheli Thompson at ashelithompson@hotmail.com

Mooresville Soup Kitchen is running low on cooking and cleaning supplies such as Grease Lighting, Purple Power, cooking spray and plastic forks. SOLACE for the Children...hosting deadline approaching

SOLACE for The Children is an organization that provides medical and dental care to needy children. They do this primarily through a summer hosting program in which children from Afghanistan come to the United States and stay with American families during the summer for six weeks while they receive treatment. The local medical community donates their services to treat these special children.

As you might imagine, hosting one of these children is a life-changing experience, but the effects reach beyond individual homes. Friendships develop between Afghan children of differing ethnic backgrounds, host families of differing denominations, Afghans and Americans, and local Christian and Muslim volunteers. Solace for the Children believes that these relationships are the beginning of a foundation for lasting peace between Americans and Afghans, one person at a time.

LKN Special Olympic Basketball Event needs volunteers

Friday, February 18th from 8:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. The Lake Norman Special Olympic Basketball Event will be taking place at The War Memorial, 220 No. Maple Street, Mooresville.
It is a simple event, helping athletes dribble and retrieve basketballs and help them move to the next event station. A simple event but so wonderful for everyone involved.

These families with special needs are an amazing part of this community and getting to know and serve with them is an amazing blessing.

As you know, Christmas at The Cove is a month long celebration and it has become a great tool for us to reach people for Christ. It all starts tomorrow,Tuesday, November 23, 8:30 AM at the Mooresville Campus. Many have participated in the past and have made it an annual tradition. We want to invite you to Christmas Set Up 2010. It will be an awesome day of serving and fellowship. Our Creative Team has come up with a great plan so now we just have to put it into action, but we cannot do it without your help. For me personally events like this have been a great opportunity to meet new faces and develop relationships. We will start off Tuesday morning with a short devotion at 8:30am and then break out in to groups to bring it all to life. It will be an exciting time and I hope you all will join us.

The Cove youth group has raised $4230.00 so far for charity: water a non-profit organization that is bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations. 100% of public donations directly fund water projects. The fundsprovide clean water solutions like shallow wells, deep wells, rainwater harvesting systems, and spring protections to provide people in neein just a matter of weeks to build a well. Richard Stearns, author of "The Hole in Our Gospel" is at The Cove this Weekend!

This weekend, November 13th and 14th, Richard Stearns will be speaking at The Cove as we wrap up our series The Hole in Our Gospel. Stearns is the author of "The Hole in Our Gospel" book, and the current President of World Vision U.S. World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to tackling the causes of poverty and injustice worldwide. It's going to be an exciting weekend, so make plans to join us.

This weekend we'll also have the opportunity to sponsor children through World Vision. The Cove will have the information of over 1,100 children that are in need of sponsorship from Honduras, Lesotho and across the globe.

Please be praying about how you can respond to these needs. Hope to see you at a service.

The trip cost is $1500 and the deadline to register and have all funding in is April 3, 2011. OutREACH Serving Opportunities for November and December

First of all, allow me to thank you for a successful Hands and Feet Day of Serving. We had over 300 adults and kids volunteer their time and talents to serve those in our community! We replaced ceiling tiles and light fixtures at Barium Springs Children Home, built and landscaped the courtyard at Statesville High School, organized the warehouse, pantry and thrift store at Mooresville Christian Mission and deep cleaned the Mooresville Soup Kitchen. While all these tasks are important, the most important is to love your neighbor and share Christ through your actions; thank you for doing that!

OutREACH Team Meeting: Thursday, October 21st at 7:00 pm * Mooresville Campus. Find out how to get connected and serve outside the walls of the church. You’ll hear about upcoming serving events like Christmas at The Cove and upcoming 2011 mission trips. You’ll also hear a bit about all the different ministries we support and how YOU can make a difference.

Cove Class 401: Discovering My Life Mission: Saturday, October 23rd at 9am – noon * Mooresville Campus In this class you'll learn that by using your own gifts, personality and life story, you can reach others for Jesus in a way that only you can do! Racing 2 Cure: Rockin' Out Cancer with Candy Coburn: October 27th from 6:30 – 9:30 pm * NASCAR Hall of Fame, Charlotte. Proceeds from this concert will benefit Levine Children's Hospital, The Charlotte Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and help further the Racing 2 Cure mission of helping families who are fighting cancer. For tickets, sponsorship opportunities or additional information visit www.racing2cure.org

Serenity House: Saturday, October 30th * Charles Mack Citizen Center in Mooresville. Join the Serenity House for their 3rd annual fundraiser, the 2010 Annual Murder Mystery Dinner Theater "Murder at The Movies". Tickets for the fundraiser are $75.00 and include appetizers, wine, a buffet dinner and professional theater entertainment. Tickets can be reserved now by calling Serenity House at 704-664-2004. Hunger & Poverty Awareness Week: November 13th – November 19th Mitchell Community College and the Mooresville Christian Mission are uniting to bring this “Awareness Week” to our community. They believe that our community can improve many of the issues facing those living in poverty in our area, while strengthening our community as a whole. Children’s Home of Iredell County: The Children’s Home is vying for a $250,000 grant for a new program to help kids who age out of foster care in Iredell County. This grant will help address key issues that children "aging out" face such as continuing their education, employment, life skills training, and transportation. Tutoring / Mentoring program for Lakeshore School: Volunteers are needed to tutor once or twice a week for 40 minutes during study hall on Tuesdays or Thursdays from 2:40 – 3:20. Christmas @ The Cove Serving Opportunities: Looking for a way to impact lives this Christmas season? Help The Children's Home of Iredell County win a $250,000 grant

Pepsi is having a contest for community organizations to win money for their projects. Pepsi will grant the money to the organization who receives the most votes during the month of October. Beginning Oct. 1 you and your family...including any children age 13 and older, can vote each day to help us win. You may vote twice a day....once by texting and once online via facebook or our website.

Beginning Oct. 1st, The Children's Homes of Iredell County will be vying for a $250,000 grant for a new program to help kids who age out of foster care in Iredell County. A prayer for the people of Honduras

We received this letter from Pastor Israel last week. As he predicted, the heavy rains caused more devastation throughout Honduras. The greatest tragedy in all this is the destruction of the crops (from coffee, rice, fruit, beans and corn). Pastor Israel is predicting that famine conditions may occur over the next few months. Please pray about how we can help.

This month, as in previous years, Honduras is about to be struck by a hurricane, and they are predicting that the consequences will be tragic. Since July, the intensity and duration of the rain has been abnormally heavy, causing the ground to be thoroughly saturated with water—which means that even light showers are causing floods. Thus, the rain from this hurricane will cause major floods across the entire country.

The water level in the rivers is already at flood stage, so when even a light rain comes, the roads become very dangerous. Many of the major paved roads have even cracked and split apart, especially in the capital, Tegucigalpa . Many buildings’ foundations are cracking, and the roads only continue to get worse—causing dangerous conditions that are resulting in injuries and deaths. There have been a number of landslides in many areas that have left families homeless and continuing rain has killed the crops that the people depend on for survival.

The Christian Community in Honduras is doing all that we can with what we have available. I do not doubt that God is allowing this tragedy in order to strengthen our faith, remind us of our frailty and need for Him, and to give the church an opportunity to reach out to those in need.

We are praying that this crisis will be used by CCH and other Christians across the country to honor God. If the Christians will truly unite together in prayer to intercede on behalf of all of the people in need, we can see the Lord supply the material needs of the people—providing a perfect opportunity to testify to His greatness.

The pastors and the churches of CCH ask that you will join with us in prayer so that the people of Honduras will see Christ through this tragedy. Thank you for your prayer and support!

Hands & Feet Serving Opportunities this weekend

Hello OutREACH Team! Here are couple serving opportunities that are coming up this weekend! Consider this your personnel invitation; look forward to sharing the love of Christ with you to our community!

Hands and Feet Serving Day: Saturday October 2nd from 8:00 am – 1:00 pm * Mooresville Campus and Statesville High School. We will be coming together as a church to serve and share the love of Christ throughout our communities. It’s super-easy to get involved and there will be opportunities for people of all ages, so bring your whole family!

Join us at 8:00 am at either the Mooresville Campus or at Statesville High School to learn about the serving opportunities for the day. You will then be able to decide where you’d like to serve and get more instructions. Most projects will be completed by noon or early afternoon. Mooresville Soup Kitchen Dinner: Saturday October 2nd from 2:00 pm – 7:00 pm * Mooresville Soup Kitchen. The Cove Church is partnering with the Mooresville Soup Kitchen for a “Saturday Night at The Kitchen.” This is a night of feeding for the body and soul! The Cove Church will present praise & worship music followed by a message and a warm meal. We’re looking for volunteers to help prepare, cook, serve and clean up. Do you have a blind spot?

Think about when you are driving and you go to change lanes, you turn around, look, make the move to change lanes and you had a blind spot and didn’t see the car to your right. Or maybe you are looking straight on at something but don’t “really” see it even though it is right in front of you.

These blind spots are physical but do you think we also have spiritual and emotional blind spots in our life? Many of us do things to protect ourselves from seeing people in poverty and pain. We move to the other side of the road, avoid a street all together, let calls go to voicemail or turn the channel.

As Jesus followers God wants us to open our eyes and hearts to the “blind spots” that are holding us back from making God visible to the world. We must be the hands and feet. “The true gospel is a call to self-denial. It is not call to self-fulfillment”.

Remove the “blind spots” in your life. Pray and look for ways to make the invisible God visible to those God places in your path.

Colors of Poverty

What color comes to mind when you think of the word “poverty”? Do you think of dark shades of brown, black and grey marked by dusty roads and land plagued by drought? Surely it's not green a color that symbolizes growth. Or blue, which suggests loyalty, hope and confidence. Or is it? Some of the most magical and beautiful places I have been to are also some of the most impoverished. Don’t be misguided poverty comes in all colors shapes and sizes. As you go through your day and take in your surroundings what color do you see?

Manicures and Bingo with Lots of Love Senior Ministry

Ministry Leader for Lots of Love, Tracey Rogers and team enjoyed a “Social” at Summit Assisted Living with the residents this past Saturday August 14th.

Tracey says, "We painted nails, played bingo and visited with the residents. We had some new faces to LOL and some familiar ones. One of our volunteers played the violin for the residents. It was truly a blessed day."

Costa Rica Mission Trip 2010

Guest Blogger and student leader, Taylor Russ recapping the High School Costa Rica Mission trip:

This was my third international trip to Costa Rica with The Cove, and as always God showed up in many ways. We had 2 purposes for the time. The first was to spread the name of Jesus Christ through two Vacation Bible Schools, one at an Indian Village, and the other at a newly planted church. Our second purpose was to put together a concert for the youth with our student band and a known Christian band in Costa Rica called, Ruta Uno.

By the grace of God everything went very well and many lives were changed on the trip including the people we came in contact with. However just as importantly as those lives were changed our lives were changed in many ways as well. God showed and taught me many things about myself while I was there. Quiet time with God was almost essential and very fruitful to my day to day. He showed me how big He is and His love for me. God is all we need and He showed me a place of peacefulness and contentment with Him alone.

The trip was a huge success and God was present the whole time. I not only thank Him for the opportunity, but for seizing the opportunity and being a witness and light for Him and His kingdom.
